Betty W Curtis

On December 14,1947, in Roberta, Georgia God sent a gift from heaven in the form of a beautiful baby girl. Her parents Willie Frank Willis and Mammie Lee Raines Willis names her Betty JoAnn Willis. Betty was the second child of seven siblings. Betty was a member of the graduating Class of 1965 for Crawford County School System. She was crowned Miss Crawford County Sweetheart in 1964 and Miss Crawford County Training High School in 1965. Also, in 1965, Betty was named "Best Actress" in the state of Georgia. In 1965 Betty, matriculated to the Fort Valley State College (now University) and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education with a minor in Social Science and Secretarial Science. Betty furthered her education by receiving a full scholarship to attend the University of Georgia. At UGA Betty, studied Programs of education and Career Exploration and obtained a degree in Guidance Counseling. In 1976, while visiting in South Korea; she taught at Youngsan Education Center as a teacher of General Technical Improvement {English and Mathematics} to military soldiers. Betty had such a desire for every person to be educated. She valued the opportunities of a good education would create, therefore, she taught special needs children in the Detroit Public School System from 1989 to 1999. After retirement n education, Betty pursued a career in real estate and worked for four years with Century 21. She was a life-long learner and an advance writer. Betty was a member of Crawford County Retired Educators Association. Betty's church affiliations included Healing Spring Missionary Church in Michigan, Sandy Valley Baptist Church in Warner Robins, Salem Baptist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church. She was a God-fearing woman, a woman of strong faith, loving, dedicated, inspiring, and filled with wisdom. Betty was a sophisticated and all-around splendid person who enjoyed shopping and traveling. God in his infinite wisdom, call home the soul of our beloved sister home to glory on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Willie Frank Willis and the late Mamie Lee Willis, Her loving memories will be forever cherished by her two brothers, Charlie Frank Willis of Roberta, Georgia, and Frank Aaron Willis of Detroit, Michigan; four sisters Mary Mathis, Ernestine(Kenneth) Turner all of Roberta, Georgia, Gayle Willis, Riverdale, Georgia, Brenda(James) Spearman, Fairburn, Georgia, and Mablean Pennyman, Thomaston, Georgia; aunts, Doris Cheatman and Fannie Mae Raines both of Thomaston, Georgia, Mattie(Malachi) Fullwood; Pontiac, Michigan; one uncle, Jake T. Raines (Carrie Bell) of Culloden, Georgia; a devoted companion, Lewis Richardson, and host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives and friends.
