Joe Hairston

Joe Robert Hairston, Jr. was the seventh child of eight children of Joe Robert Hairston, Sr., and Nancy Ann Hairston on April 15, 1944, in Martinsville, Virginia. Pete, as he was affectionately called, by his family and friends graduated in 1962 from George Washington Carved High School. After graduation, he enlisted into the United states Army on September 16, 1962. He served his country faithfully for over 22 years. Retiring November 1, 1984. Joe served two tours in combat. His decorations and medals consist of the following: National Defense Service Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Service Star, 1 Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, 4 overseas Service Bars, Purple Heart with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and Combat Infantryman Badge. In 1985 , Joe answered the calling from God to minister to his children. To tell all men and women, boys, and girls of the goodness of the Lord and the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. In March 1992, he became the Pastor of the Union Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia. In November2008, Rev. Hairs ton accept the pastoral role at the New Home Baptist Church. In addition to his Pastoral Duties at Union Baptist and New Home Baptist Church, Rev. Hairs ton served as Chaplain at the Macon State Prison. During his 11 years as Champlain, Rev. Hairston touch so many lives in a godly way. Many are now followers of Christ because of the teachings of Rev. Joe Hairston. He served as Champlain at the Taylor County Sheriff Department from 1985 to Present. "For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ." Colossians 2:5 On July 31, 1980, he joined in holy matrimony to Evelyn, and they shared a union with God for 40 years until God called her home from labor to reward on September 27, 2020. Joe Robert Hairston, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings. He leaves to cherish his precious and loving memories, one sister: Lorraine Patterson of Martinsville, Virginia and several nieces and nephews throughout the United States.
